Six Crimson Cranes Book Review
Rating: 5/5
Six Crimson Cranes is by far one of the best books I’ve ever read. It is a magical fantasy book based on East Asian mythology. Not only was it captivating and enchanting, but it was also such a sweet and loveable book as well. It’s not just an adventure story but also a coming of age story, as we see the main character Shiori grow.
I loved that Shiori wasn’t portrayed as a helpless girl, and was instead a strong minded, brave, and determined character. She had a vibrant personality, and if I could, I would’ve loved to become her friend. Her pet paper crane Kiki was so adorable, and together they made a great pair. Her six brothers had unique, distinctive personalities , so it was easy to tell them apart.
Takkan was such a sweetheart, and was super kind. Even when everybody else believed Shiori and her brothers were dead, he kept his faith in them and kept on looking. Megari was the perfect cunning, cute little sister, and she was so sweet. Seryu, the dragon was a kind, funny, lovable character. He was a very interesting character, but it was a shame that we didn’t get to see more of him in the book. However, the second book (which comes out August 30th) will take place in the dragon kingdom, so hopefully we will see more of Seryu.
Shiori has magic in her blood, but in Kiata, it is forbidden. As the one and only princess of Kiata, she can’t risk her father knowing, or he might banish her. She’s pretty good at controlling it, but on her wedding ceremony, she loses control. At first, she thinks of it as a good thing, because now her dreaded wedding has been delayed. But soon, her sorceress stepmother starts to notice Shiori’s magic. Her stepmother banishes Shiori and her brothers, turning her brothers into cranes, and cursing Shiori, so that if she talks her brothers will die. Shiori is sent to a part of Kiata she does not know. Voiceless and penniless, Shiori must find her brothers and reverse the curse.

AHHHHH! I'm so glad that I found a solid book review on Six Crimson Cranes!!! I absolutely loved this book, and you're right, Takkan was SO SWEET!!! I'm excited to see more of Seryu, because he was such an interesting character. ALTHOUGH- I think that Takkan and Shiori are better together than Shiori and Seryu 💖
